1. Introduce yourself.? Hello, I am Dr. Majeda Afeef Al-Ruzzieh, a proud alumna of the University of Jordan's School of Nursing. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1995, followed by a Master's degree in 2002, and later obtained my PhD in Nursing in 2015. Currently, I serve as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), a role I have held since 2008. I have over 30 years of experience, including more than 20 years in hospital management and executive leadership, with extensive expertise in strategic planning, policy development, and advancing nursing excellence. I actively contribute to high-level decision-making committees focused on enhancing cancer care in Jordan and across the region. I am deeply committed to empowering nurses, fostering a culture of excellence, and improving healthcare quality to optimize patient outcomes.
I hold a Fellowship in Person-Centered Care (FPCC) and a certification in the Essentials of the Magnet® Program from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in the United States. I was awarded the HRH Princess Mona Al-Hussein Award for Excellence in Nursing Leadership in Jordan (Rafidah Al-Islamiah Medal) in 2013.
| 2. Share your fondest memory from your time at Jordan University? One of my fondest memories from my time at the University of Jordan was the moments spent with friends, creating lasting bonds and shared experiences. A particularly memorable occasion was when I was officially announced as having earned my PhD. The discussion of my thesis marked a significant milestone in my professional journey, and it remains a defining and beloved memory of my time at the university.
| 3. In one word, how would you describe Jordan University? Elite.
| 4. Explain how your experiences at UJ shaped you? The University of Jordan provided a supportive environment that allowed me to strengthen relationships and expand my knowledge base. The opportunities for professional development played a significant role in my career journey. Specifically, my PhD study, with a focus on Transformational Leadership, enhanced my research and analytical skills, equipping me with the tools needed to succeed and make a meaningful impact in my professional career.
| 5. Discuss what fascinated you about your chosen course of study.? What fascinated me about studying nursing profession was the opportunity to combine science with compassionate care. Nursing allows me to make a direct impact on patients' lives, and their families, addressing both their medical and emotional needs. This combination of knowledge and human connection motivated me to pursue nursing.
| 6. Offer advice to graduating students preparing to enter the workforce? The nursing profession is constantly evolving. Therefore, my advice to graduating nursing students is to remain curious and committed to continuous learning. Staying updated with current knowledge and professional developments is essential. Additionally, to build strong professional relationships and continuously seek mentorship and guidance opportunities.
| 7. Reflect on what you wish you had known during your time as a student? I wish I had recognized the importance of hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge. Internships, mentorship, and professional networking are essential for developing critical skills and advancing in the nursing profession.
| 8. Identify the person who has had the greatest impact on your career? My parents were among my earliest supporters in my professional journey, but the greatest influence came from my husband. He believed in my abilities, encouraged me constantly, and supported me every step of the way, helping me achieve my aspirations. I am deeply grateful to all the professors at the University of Jordan who have shaped my journey throughout my academic studies in all degrees. Their guidance and mentorship have had a profound impact on my career.
