Explain how your experiences at UJ shaped you? It greatly supported my journey in the U.S., allowing me to stay on par with other U.S. dentists in both knowledge and training. | 5. Discuss what fascinated you about your chosen course of study? Dentistry is an incredibly rewarding profession, especially considering the challenges it entails, patients' anxiety, the pain they endure, and the complexities of treatment. Seeing patients healthy and smiling makes it all worthwhile. | 6. Offer advice to graduating students preparing to enter the workforce? My advice is to always be present, stay focused, and have a clear vision of your goals. Your faculty holds a wealth of knowledge, you just need to work hard and actively seek to learn more. | 7. Reflect on what you wish you had known during your time as a student? Looking back, I wish I had known the importance of balancing theory with hands-on practice earlier. While studying hard is essential, actively seeking clinical experience and learning beyond textbooks makes a huge difference. I also wish I had realized that it's okay to ask for help—whether from professors, colleagues, or mentors. Dentistry is a lifelong learning journey, and the sooner you embrace curiosity and persistence, the more confident and skilled you become. Lastly, I would remind my younger self to enjoy the process, cherish friendships, and not stress too much over perfection. | 8. Identify the person who has had the greatest impact on your career? I can't say there was just one person who had an impact on me—both of my parents have played and continue to play a significant role in my life and career. Navigating through dental school was not easy, but their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement helped me overcome challenges and stay focused on my goals.
