He currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company. He has also served as Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to his role as Minister of Education.
Al-Thneibat holds the rank of Professor and has attained the following academic degrees:
- PhD in Administrative Sciences from the University of Southern California in 1982.
- Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Southern California in 1981.
- Master's degree in Administrative Sciences from the University of Southern California in 1979.
- Bachelor's degree in Economics and Administrative Sciences from the University of Jordan in 1975.

- Professor at the University of Jordan.
- Secretary-General of the Civil Service Bureau.
- Advisor to the Prime Minister in 1992.
- President of the Administrative Inspection Bureau from 1992 to 1994.
